Imagine walking into the very first house on your list and realizing—wait a second—this is it!
The kitchen doesn’t need updating, the backyard doesn’t resemble a jungle, and the neighbors don’t look like they’re starring in their own reality show. It’s suspiciously perfect.
You might find yourself squinting at the walls like you’re in a Scooby-Doo episode, waiting for the secret passageway to creak open and reveal why no one else grabbed it first. Surely there has to be a catch—ghosts, a portal to another dimension, or maybe a cursed dishwasher?
Then the real paranoia sets in: “Did we peak too early?” Buying the very first house you tour almost feels like marrying the first person you ever dated—romantic in theory, but in practice you half-expect some wise aunt to shake her head and say, “Don’t you want to see what else is out there?”
But sometimes, the universe just tosses you a softball, and the house of your dreams shows up right out of the gate. Of course, you’ll still pretend to look at a few more, just so you don’t feel like you’ve been cheated out of the drama, stress, and emotional whiplash everyone else insists is “part of the process.”
Believe it or not, this DOES happen (I’ve been a part of a few of them!). I recently had a young, first time buyer couple last who I helped relocate from Texas and the very FIRST house we looked at ended up being “the one”. Of course we looked at a few more that same day because the “aunt” in all of us felt like we should (see paragraph 4 lol).
